This coffee has been grown on the Urrutia Estate by Dr. Gustavo Adolfo Urrutia Centeno and his family. The estates history dates back to the 1870's when Mr. Juan Urrutia planted the first coffee trees at high altitude in volcanic soil. His first crop was a modest 27 sacks, as time passed, coffee plantation grew and it become a family tradition, with improved quality year after year. This coffee was picked in the morning, processed in the afternoon, washed with pure fresh water and patio sun dried on Guardiola dryers.

The coffee is 100% shade grown. The farmers plant native trees every year and to prevent erosion they use izote, which is their national flower and they use a native plant, copalchi as a natural wind barrier. The farm is a permanent source of work for many families, in the countryside, providing over 800 jobs and provisions are made for food, transportation and schooling for the children.

The dry aroma is certainly sweet and fruity, most notably blueberry on the nose. As a filter it has a syrupy sweet aroma in the cup and a surprisingly low acidity. It feels very well rounded and soft. On the palate, the blueberry is balanced with fudge and a toffee biscuit finish.

As an espresso the fruit acidity is again quite mild and the sweetness develops into a heavy, syrupy molasses texture, There is certainly some blueberry acidity keeping it fresh but its not at all overwhelming. The sweetness carries on right through to the finish.
