This coffee is helping to fund the Village Pure Water Project, an initiative providing clean drinking water to the coffee farming communities in Ethiopia.

The Village Pure Water Project was establishedin 2021 through a partnership between DRWakefield and Shochoch Trading, acoffee exporter in Ethiopia. Shochoch Trading is owned by Mr. Terefe TadesseGodi, who grows coffee on his own plantations while supporting smallholdercoffee farmers in the Bench Sheko zone in the country's South West.

Our Roastery

Dan Fox, our Head of Coffee, leads a team at our Witney Roastery to expertly taste, select, and roast our coffee. We have invested heavily in recent years in one of the most technolgically advanced roasteries within our area. Using the very latest roasting equipment across three systems and software which gives us the ability to maximaise quality and consistencey at every roast.

Once carefully packaged, it is then shipped to customers in the UK and beyond. With a global understanding of coffee harvests occurring at different times throughout the year, Dan collaborates with a team of specialised importers to ensure fair pay for farmers. As a company, we also prioritise investing in community projects that benefit the communities we depend on for our coffee.

About This Coffee

The Village Pure Water Project supports farming communities in the South Bench District of the Bench Sheko zone. Although it is an area renowned for its high-quality coffee production and sustainable farming practices, coffee growers have no access to pure drinkable water. Instead, producers and their families have been using local rivers and natural springs for drinking water, which are not treated or confirmed as safe, leading to disease and malnutrition in the local community.

The Village Pure Water Project aims to change this by building clean water
wells, helping families access safe drinking water, preventing disease and
promoting well-being for the Bench Sheko community.

For every kilo of coffee bought, a 10 cts/lb premium is added to help fund the Village Pure Water Project

In Ethiopia, four in ten people, over 60 million individuals, don't have access to clean drinking water. Safe water, sanitation, and hygiene services are essential for disease and infection prevention. Up to 80% of communicable diseases in Ethiopia are linked to limited access to clean water and sanitation. Over 70,000 under-five deaths yearly are caused by diarrhoea due to unclean water and poor toilets.
