Rwanda Gasharu
Rwanda Gasharu
Mango | Raspberry | Kiwi
From the lush shores of Lake Kivu in Rwanda’s Western Province comes this remarkable lot from the Gasharu Washing Station in Wimana, Nyamasheke-Gatare district. Gasharu partners with more than 1,075 smallholder farmers in the region, just steps away from the breathtaking Nyangwe Forest National Park—one of central Africa’s largest and best-preserved rainforests, home to a quarter of the continent’s primate species. The ProcessQuality begins at the very first step. Only the ripest cherries are hand-picked and floated in water to ensure perfection. They are then fermented in sealed tanks without oxygen for 72 hours, allowing rich, fruit-forward flavours to develop. After fermentation, the cherries are laid out on raised African beds to dry in the sun for 30–40 days, carefully tended to ensure even drying and to protect against over-fermentation, mould, or heat damage.Every day, a quality controller checks the beans until they reach 12% humidity, after which the coffee is rested in a cool, dry warehouse before undergoing its final preparation for export. In the CupThis meticulous process creates a coffee that’s bold, bright, and bursting with fruit character. All balanced by a wine-like sweetness and a smooth, clean finish. Why We Love ItThis lot is a true celebration of Rwandan coffee innovation. It’s vibrant, complex, and playful— perfect for home brewers looking for something adventurous and memorable in the cup.
